How about I give you a phone call, and you give me my megahutz...

July 8: No net yet D:

This morning I got up and had dorm breakfast of mustard-wiener-vegetable mix (with rice and miso soup).  Other than natto, I think this might be the first repeat I've seen yet.  Oh well, it's pretty good, so I don't mind.

I got to work on time, but I took the bus because I slept in after staying up kinda late last night.  I felt pretty tired all day, so I think I'm going to go to bed early tonight to avoid having the same experience tomorrow.

At work today I debugged and debugged and debugged.  >_<  All of my recommenders *look* like they're working, but their behaviour is a little... off.  Kabutoya-san said that he would expect a result like PLSA > Item-based CF > Mixture Model > User-based CF > Unigram, but mine currently stand at Item-based CF > PLSA > User-based CF = Unigram > Mixture Model, which doesn't make too much sense to me either, to be honest.  I also cleaned up the code that I'm relatively sure is behaving properly so that it's nice and pretty and commented and stuff.

At lunch we played beach-style handiball, and I didn't try to gouge my eye out even once!  Whoo hoo!  Go me...  It was quite fun, but my coworkers called it quits before the lunch hour was over, citing the heat (which I have been getting more and more used to).  Oh well, at least that meant I got to sit and stare at my code more... >_>

I'm not sure what else to say about my afternoon than it was just more debugging. >_<  Today was pretty dry.  I was going to ask Kabutoya-san about all kinds of things before I left, but he left in a hurry at like 5:15! I guess he had somewhere to be (one would hope haha).  Because he wasn't there to shoo me away, I ended up working until like 6:45, which was alright, because I'm pretty much prepped and ready to ask Kabutoya-san about some potential problems in my models tomorrow.

I walked home because it was reasonably cool out, and I was again sad that Kabutoya-san suggested against bringing a camera to work, because the view walking down the hill from the building is absolutely gorgeous.  Today it had that layered mist effect happening in spades, where successively more distant hills are grayer and grayer with mist until they can't be distinguished from the sky anymore.  There's a large forest by the research park, and you can see it surrounding a part of Yokosuka as well.  The road curves away from that and leads you down beneath a bunch of leafy trees, and all along the side of the road, up on a bank above your head are blue hydrangeas all in bloom.  It's really, really pretty, and it's very serene because no traffic other than the buses and employees go on the road going up/down the hill.  Of course that's just like a tenth of the way back to the dorm, and the rest is just in typical suburban Yokosuka. >_<

Dorm dinner today was a really tasty yakiudon kind of thing that had thin pieces of pork and chikuwa in it.  Alongside it was some not-so-tasty deep fried fish.  I was not a fan of that fish.  It didn't taste like it had gone bad, it just tasted not-good haha.  It kind of made me understand why Arnold in the Magic School Bus hated fish sticks for lunch, a thing I have never gotten until now, as the fish sticks I've had have always been quite pleasant.

After dinner I went to check on how my net connection was doing, and I found it to be NOT PRESENT.  D:<  I don't know if they told me to do something I needed to do in the bunch of dense documentation I received in the mail or what, but at present my computer doesn't have any megabytes (except for the ones coming through the air). ;D  I called the tech support number for OCN (the provider that is not NTT East) because they have an English line.  I got a guy on the other end with an I'm-pretty-sure-you-know-what accent, but I don't think he could do much at all to help me.  He had me reset the router and then told me I would probably have more luck calling NTT.  He gave me a number where they will supposedly speak English, but they are open weekdays 9 to 5.  >_<  Tomorrow and the next day are weekends, and after that there are two more days of work before I can call.  I am crossing my fingers that my Internet magically appears some time before then, but I'm not sure how hopeful it's reasonable to be, since it was already supposed to have magically appeared (and we know how that went).

And now, having finished my blog post at a highly respectable hour, I am going to check my e-mail and hopefully go to bed as soon as my laundry finishes.  I have to do laundry obscenely often to keep from smelling bad.  I pushed my luck today using the small towel twice in a row (my big towel is good for two days, my small one is good for one), and I could smell jankey towel now and again throughout the day.  Yeuck. D:

Anyways, off to boboland for me soon, hopefully, and hopefully tomorrow I will be DRENCHED with megabytes! ;D

Night!
