Still no FLET'S for me...

July 10: Eureka! (sort of)

Today at breakfast I ate something that looked suspiciously like last night's dinner mixed into harusame (vermicelli noodles).  In Canada I was a big eater of leftovers for breakfast though, so I'm not complaining haha.  There was also tororo, and, of course, rice and miso soup as well (do I even need to say that anymore?).

I got to work on time and finally things appear to be moving away from me trying to fix my recommenders.  I got some suggestions from Kabutoya-san, and he finally gave up on trying to help me fix my code and gave me his, and much to my surprise I found that I was using a different database than he was.  D:<  Well, that along with something that stemmed from that explains pretty much EVERYTHING that's been wrong with my results since yesterday morning!  Diu.....  I switched to the dataset that he actually wanted me to use and my results came out looking like they should.  How incredibly frustrating that a simple miscommunication was at the heart of me spending FAR longer on a task than necessary!  I am now working on making presentation slides summarizing my results, which I will show to my fellow group members on Tuesday.  Making the slides is slow going because I have to write down long mathematical formulas basically using the mouse, as I don't believe PowerPoint has shortcuts for its mathematical symbols, even if you are in formula mode.  Formula mode is pretty nifty though; it's got all kinds of features that are very handy, and it looks a lot cleaner than having to subscript/superscript stuff all over the place whenever you want to write down a summation.  Also in the morning was a minor earthquake!  It's my first one since arriving, and the first one I have ever actually noticed in my life (as far as I can remember).  All of a sudden everything was moving, but it was very gentle, and when looking around I saw that everyone was very calm (although a couple of people were standing up and looking around as well), so I didn't hide under my desk and count to sixty or anything haha.

At lunchtime Kurauchi-san and I were looking at the display of available lunches today and he summarized my thoughts perfectly when he said "I... don't really want to eat ANY of these things..."  D:  I ended up having some kind of "honey mustard" chicken (I don't believe much of either was harmed in the making of the dish I got), which was edible, but incredibly underwhelming, even with my low expectations.  Oh well... I have had many meals I've actually enjoyed at the cafeteria, so it's OK if one's not so great.  Unfortunately the menu seems to be somewhat cyclical, so perhaps this unfortunate arrangement of things I don't want to eat will roll around again some time.  >_<  Let's hope the different types of dishes rotate at different rates, so that the period of their combined rotation is very, very long.

I played handiball after eating, and I did alright despite it being 4-on-4 again.  We actually played for the full time again, which was nice because I like to seize the moment when I'm actually playing not-god-awfully haha.  We didn't stop playing at the regular 25 points because we still had a lot of time left, so the score ended up as a rather lopsided 32-62 (in our favour thank goodness) by the end of the lunch hour.

After lunch was more of me running my recommenders and writing down the results and making presentation slides.  Kabutoya-san left early again today, but lucky for me I reached a logical breakpoint at about 6:20, so I didn't stay late.  I've been quite lucky with my breakpoints on unsupervised days so far, and I hope the trend continues! ;D

I walked home from work and it seemed like the usual distance this time, and I had the full-ish water bottle again, so I have no idea what was up with yesterday.  I got home at almost precisely 7:00, and ate dorm supper shortly thereafter.  Today it was a giant hamburger patty with some kind of sauce, chunks of baked (or something) squash and something else I unfortunately can't remember now haha.  I remember it being pretty good whatever it was!  Oh yeah and there was miso soup and rice (duh).

After dinner I decided not to go to Yokochuu to buy towels, as I predicted that I would get there at 8:00, which would mean that even if the Seiyu was open on Sundays, if they closed early I would be screwed.  I therefore left that trip for a day when I know it will be successful, as just the bus fare there and back is 660円 (ouch).  I instead went to the Matsumoto Piyoshi~ (that one's for you Jiuna ;D) and bought some handsoap, as the handsoap in the dispensers in the bathroom in my dorm give out the crappiest soap on the planet, only one of three ever has soap at any given time, AND it often runs out before any of the others are filled!  As far as I have seen I am the only one who actually uses soap after going to the washroom, so I can understand why their soap supply and management skills are wanting.  Also, ew.  Anyways, I got some hand soap for myself, as well as a refill (it was on sale!), and have stashed it by my door for convenience.  I also bought some "body towels" that are definitely washcloths, but I am going to see if I can use one like a towel.  They dry out ULTRA fast, so hopefully they will not smell (if they even work as towels).

I did a little bit of laundry, and tried troubleshooting my internet connection a little bit more.  If any of you know anything about PPPoE connections, could you let me know?  I've tried creating a new connection, and have inputted my username and password given to me by OCN, but the connection still fails (that and the OCN guy I called seemed to think my connection issues were NTT's problem).  I looked up the error code I got (651), but all the problems I saw others having all seemed to be posted at around the same time in 2009, so I doubt my problem is the same.  I also don't really want to be messing around in my system32 folder and sticking files from the Internet in there, especially when I have a strong suspicion that the problem is not mine.

It's now time for bed, as I am armed with "towels", and if I get up on time I think I will try running to work tomorrow.  I asked Kabutoya-san about coming in on B2 to get to the locker room, but he said "no you should take the front door", to which I replied "even though I'll be really sweaty and gross?" (I even made a face and flicked my hands in a "god I gotta get this off me" kind of way), to which he just said "yes."  Oh well... Unfortunately if I appear in running gear at the front door, the security people will forevermore know the exact extent of my fitness/willpower, as it's the same people there every day, and I think my appearance qualifies as "rather distinctive" over here... Just sayin'. D:

Anyways, night everyone!  There's not much of a breeze today, so getting to sleep will suck.  Also, there are mosquitoes now.  Ick.  I've got bites, but no really inconvenient ones yet (knock on wood).
